Old Ford Church of Christ is an independent group of Christians, affiliated with the undenominational fellowship of the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ in what is know as the "Restoration Movement." The oldest recorded information in the Beaufort County Court House is an Indenture dated November 6, 1823, the "Old Ford Meeting House" for one acre of land for the sum of $1.00. This Meeting House was organized sometime during the year 1828 as a member of Kehukee Association of Baptists but in Oct. 1883 the church was dropped from the rolls. The church flourished with 160 members when it openly affiliated with the Christian Disciples on Oct. 10, 1846 at their annual state convention.
North Carolina Disciples held their first "State Sunday School Convention" at Old Ford on July 28-30, 1882. Old Ford opened the Disciples Christian Institute as the first brotherhood sponsored Bible College in the state on Sept. 26, 1892 with six Bible students.
In 1931, 1952, and 1972 the old church under went many upgrades and additions.
October 1941, the church hired a minister for the second and fourth Sundays. In 1948, Old Ford Church of Christ became an "Independent New Testament Church." In Nov. 1952 the church started having preaching services weekly.
On Feb. 2, 1973, at public auction the Old Ford Church purchased the vacated Old Ford school building and 6.7 acres of land. Remodeling began and the first church service was held on Homecoming Day, Oct. 14, 1972. Extensive additions were made in the sanctuary during the year 1982, a twenty-seven foot steeple was installed in 1986 and in 1991, the old church and parsonage were sold.
In 1995, Old Ford Church of Christ held our first Christmas Panorama with scenes recreating the birt of Jesus Christ and His life's story.
Our first Faith Promise Rally was in 1996 for missions around the world to support the Lord's work. Through our faith we help 15 different missions.
Old Ford added the Family Life Center which was dedicated to the Work and Glory of Jesus Christ on March 29, 1998.
